Same Candles, New Lessons

When we packed up Four Winds Candle Co. in Colorado and moved everything to California, we knew there would be an adjustment period.

We just didn't realize our candles would need one too.

We've been making candles for years. We know our wax. We know our vessels. We know our temperatures, our fragrances, and all the little things we've learned through countless pours.

And then we moved.

Suddenly, wax was cooling differently. Our workspace was different. The temperature was different. The humidity was different. Even making our concrete vessels came with a new set of variables.

Things we'd done hundreds of times without thinking suddenly required us to pay attention again.

It was frustrating at first.

There's something humbling about being good at something and then having your environment remind you that there's always more to learn.

But we've started to appreciate it.

Building Four Winds has never really been about figuring something out once and then doing it the same way forever. It's been about paying attention, making adjustments, screwing things up occasionally, figuring out why, and trying again.

Apparently moving across the country wasn't going to change that.

And maybe that's fitting.

We're building a new life here. We're learning a new town, meeting new people, finding our routines, and slowly making this place feel like home.

Four Winds is doing the same thing.

The candles are still ours. The concrete vessels are still made by our hands. The fragrances are still the ones we've spent so much time choosing and perfecting.

We're just learning how to make them here.

And while starting over can be uncomfortable, there's also something pretty exciting about realizing you still have things left to learn.

We'll figure it out.
